Author's side note: Rape is immoral and wrong. If anyone disagrees with this, get off the internet and stay in a cave, away from society forever. You don't belong here and you don't deserve to be here. Don't talk to me, don't watch my page, ignore me in every way possible. I like to pretend people like you don't exist anywhere but tied down in torture chambers and horrible prisons.

However, the real reason I'm writing this is because many writers and artists that I know and respect have jumped on a fetish bandwagon. Now there's an interesting trend in fiction, whether it's fan fiction or original, that's making me sick and has for years.

RAPE IN FICTION

I like to believe that people who write about rape or draw it have never met anyone who has been truly raped. They've been desensitized (in whatever way that may be) and are viewing the whole thing from the Rapist's perspective, not the one who's being raped. It's cold and disgusting.

That's the first thing I want to touch down on. You may not be raping someone yourself, but if you find rape art or fiction sexy or amusing… you are putting yourself in the shoes of the rapist. You, yourself, are raping someone. This person may or may not be real, it doesn't matter. You're enjoying the prospect of hurting someone in a sexual way.  If you disagree, please read on before commenting.

I happen to be someone who loves literature and will do quite a bit of reading and writing myself. Most people know me as being pretty much only fandom-based, but that's not true at all. I read more original fiction than I do fan fiction. Still, this applies to both sides. For the sake of this being easier, though, I'm going to use fan fiction as an example.

It's not hard to find it. It's in every popular fandom and spread over every art site, blogging site and fiction site. On deviantArt, the search 'Rape' will come up with 101,701 entries, 17,806 of which are under the 'fanart' section. 'Rapeface' has become a popular meme that can be applied to every fandom. 'Rape' is used as a joke, in many instances in fanart. There are many memes, such as stamps and demotivationals, saying things such as "LOLRAPE" and "Rape: It's only fun if you don't get caught".

Now imagine that being applied to your everyday life. Flip on the news for a story of a serial rapist. The news casters explain the details and you see a picture of the rapist on the screen, then several of the victims. An interview with a teary eyed friend, wondering how something so horrible could have happened to their loved one. One of the news casters turns towards their counterpart and smiles. "Haha, I guess it's true! Rape really is only fun if you don't get caught."

Now imagine the outrage that would cause.

I've gotten many counter arguments to my furious rants on this subject. So to avoid most of which I'm bound to get, let me go over them.

1. It was a joke; I would never do something like that in real life.

So now rape is funny. It's a joke. I honestly don't see how this justifies it. There should be no humor in someone getting hurt in such a horrible and personal way. This scars people physically and mentally for the rest of their lives. It's not something that's easy to get over. The internet is a form of real life. Your hobbies and stories you read are a part of you. What you write is truly a part of yourself. Again, you're putting yourself in the Rapist's shoes, justifying any real consequences by shrugging it off.

2. It's fictional, not real.

It's RAPE. It doesn't matter whether or not it's real. It just doesn't need to be done! This matter should be taken seriously and not just grazed over, like it's a disease that you don't believe exists. I know this is repeating myself, but rape is WRONG. I will write it again and again until you get it.

3. I used it as a plot devise! My story wouldn't work without it!

As a writer, I can appreciate a morally-wrong, but necessary plot device. Stories need them. But let's face it, how necessary is it to have the rape written out in detail? To explain the horrified look of the one being raped, the tears, the pain, the blood and how much the rapist is enjoying it? That's smut. Written porn. And again: Rapists perspective.

If you have any other counter arguments, tell me and I'll add them to this list.

Now, I know that the internet is a place where people let themselves be more controversial than they would in their everyday work/school/home life. It's a place for release. But, as I stated above, rape isn't the way to do so.
Important things about myself:
1. I’ve never been raped, but I have friends and family members that have. I don’t think, however, that this changes the validness of my message.

2. I have written smut. I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with that. There’s something wrong with rape and pedophilia. Not humans being sexual.

3. This is a bit more serious than my ‘Are you insane?’ rant, but the same “You aren’t taking this serious enough” feeling still applies.

-----

EDIT

I'm sick of the counter arguments that you keep giving. They just sound like excuses and there's no way in hell I'm going to read 1000 words on why it's ok to like rape.

NO.

You can reply, but I probably won't reply back.

That being said, I'm glad more people are reading this.
